TAMIL NADU STATE DATA CENTRE (TNSDC)
Purpose of TNSDC:
TNSDC acts as a key-supporting element of e-Governance initiatives and businesses for delivering services to the citizens with greater reliability, availability, dependability and serviceability. TNSDC provides better operations and management control and aims to minimize overall cost of Data Management, IT Management, Deployment, Power requirement and other costs.
TNSDC enables the State Government Departments to host their applications, services and servers on a common, redundant, secured and controlled infrastructure aiming at ease of integration and efficient management.
Tamil Nadu State Data Centre (TNSDC) facilitates consolidated hosting of departmental applications to provide efficient delivery of e‑Governance services of the State. These services are extended to Government agencies, Citizens and Business through intranet connectivity by Tamil Nadu State Wide Area Network (TNSWAN) also through internet.
a. Tamil Nadu State Data Centre – 1
Tamil Nadu State Data Centre – 1 is a shared scheme established under National e-Governance Action Plan (NeGAP). TNSDC commenced its operations on 01.08.2011. TNSDC is the first ISO certified State Data Centre in the country (First Certification on 21.02.2012).
The "Term 1‟ operation of TNSDC was successfully completed on 31.07.2016. On completion of the Interim period operations (01.08.2016 to 31.10.2017), the "Term 2‟ operations commenced on 01.11.2017.
Tamil Nadu Government Departments have hosted their applications at TNSDC on Co-location/ Co-hosting/ Cloud hosting model.
Beneficiary of the Project:
The Tamil Nadu State Data Centre (TNSDC) facilitates the State to provide efficient electronic delivery by its Departments
- Government to Government (G2G)
- Government to Citizen (G2C)
- Government to Business (G2B) services

Security Architecture of TNSDC:
High level of Security Architecture Framework has been implemented at TNSDC to ensure that all the government applications and data are well protected and applications and services are available and accessible to the citizens in a secured manner.
Salient Features of TNSDC:
- TNSDC architecture design conforms to Tier – II.
- State owned full-fledged Disaster Recovery facility through Disaster Recovery Centre at Thiruchirapalli. This facility can also be utilised for co-location Data Centre services.
- Multi-tier security implementation with State of the art systems and stringent monitoring.
- TNSDC is also equipped with SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools, Vulnerability Assessment (VA) and Penetration Testing (PT) Tools.
- Enhanced Security features like Web Application Firewall (WAF), Distributed Denial of Services (DDoS), etc strengthen the security infrastructure.

TNSDC-2 can accommodate around 50 racks initially and is expandable up to 195 racks capacity on a scalable manner.

TAMILNADU DISASTER RECOVERY CENTRE (TNDRC)
In order to have a Data Disaster Recovery Centre of its own in a different seismic zone, Tamil Nadu Disaster Recovery Centre (TNDRC) has been established at Thiruchirapalli to ensure business continuity of various critical e-Governance applications hosted at Tamil Nadu State Data Centre (TNSDC). The TNDRC ensures continuity of services during risks pertaining to natural disasters.
Salient Features of TNDRC:
- Facilitated to have a mirror image of the applications / data hosted in TNSDC.
- Designed, built and maintained as per Tier II standards.
- Reliable, robust and secured infrastructure for e-Delivery of services on a 24 X 7 basis in the event of disaster at TNSDC.
- Established in a different seismic zone.
- Ensures Business Continuity of various e-Governance applications hosted at TNSDC on demand.
Departments such as Commissionerate of Treasuries & Accounts, Aavin, Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency, Commercial Taxes, Survey and Settlement and Commissionerate of Municipal Administration etc., are utilising the services of TNDRC.

Thamizh Megam – Tamil Nadu Cloud Computing Services
Cloud computing enables optimal sharing of system resources for eGovernance Applications with minimal management. TN Cloud was established in the year 2016 at an outlay of Rs.13.88 Crore for open source and proprietary source Cloud setup. Currently sixth year operation and maintenance is being carried out.
Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) are being offered. Currently, around 116 Applications / Services of various Government Departments of TN have been hosted in Thamizh Megam - TN Cloud.
In addition, to cater the growing needs of Government Departments at TNSDC and for providing Disaster Recovery facility to the Applications hosted in Cloud environment, the enhancement of Cloud infrastructure at TNSDC and Disaster Recovery facility for Cloud at TNDRC, Trichy is being implemented by M/s CDAC.
In order to have specific identity for Cloud setup at TNSDC, a Trade Mark “Thamizh Megam” has been obtained in the month Sep'2020.
Cyber Security Architecture for Tamil Nadu (CSA-TN)
Cyber Security Architecture for Tamil Nadu (CSA-TN) has been established to counter cyber-attacks in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Chennai at a cost of Rs.21.39 crore for a period of 3 years.
