Driving Licence Project

In the year 1996, the Transport Department, Government of Tamil Nadu released orders entrusting the work of issue of laminated Driving Licence cards (DL cards) to ELCOT initially for 12 centres. Subsequently, ELCOT received orders for the issue of DL cards in 138 centres in various spells.

Driving Licence cards are being issued using Vahan Sarathy Software. Presently, ELCOT is issuing the Driving Licence cards in all the 138 centres of RTO / unit offices in the state.

During the year 2016-17, ELCOT issued about 20.67 lakhs DL cards for the period up to March 2017. During 2017 – 18, it is expected that about 21 lakhs DL cards would be issued.
