To provide high quality cable TV service to the public at an affordable cost

MISSION

To provide SD and HD digital cable TV service to TACTV subscribers in the interest of the public and cable TV operators. To provide internet service to its subscribers. To establish and run Arasu e Sevai Centres to provide G2C and other services online. To provide wi fi services in schools and to establish Amma wi fi zones.

TACTV’S PROJECTS AND SCHEMES

Digital Cable TV Service

Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited was incorporated with an objective to provide high quality cable TV signals to the public at an affordable cost. The service provided by the TACTV Corporation is a welfare step taken by the Government in the interest of the public and Cable TV operators. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India granted the Provisional Registration to TACTV as MSO for the operation in DAS notified Areas in the State of Tamil Nadu on 17.4.2017.

Subsequently, the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru Edappadi K.Palaniswami, declared open TACTV’s upgraded MPEG 4 Control Room in Chennai, distributed Set Top Boxes (STB) to the subscribers and launched the digital transmission of TACTV on 1.9.2017. Distribution of STBs continues.

Arasu e-Sevai Centres (CSC)

In order to diversify its activities, TACTV has established 659 Arasu e-Sevai Centres across Tamil Nadu to provide G2C and other services online. 88 services are provided through these centres.

Permanent Enrolment Centres (PEC)

TACTV has also established 308 Permanent Enrolment Centres across the State for Aadhaar enrolment and carryout Aadhaar enrolment.

Internet to Every Household

TACTV obtained ISP Class B License from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Department of Telecommunications, on 14.9.2015 to make Internet connection available to every home in the state at affordable cost. The “Internet to every household” scheme was launched by the Honourable Chief Minister on 1.3.2016.

  • Internet tariff is fixed at a minimum rate of Rs.299/- per month.
  • TACTV has extended its internet services in Corporation and Municipal areas with Business Partners on revenue sharing basis.
  • The tariff rates are revised on a quarterly basis to suit the market on getting feed back from the public, through Business Partners.

WI FI services in schools

The Government of Tamil Nadu has proposed to provide Free Internet service to Government Higher Secondary schools through TACTV. The students will benefit from the following under this programme:

  • E learning-All texts, assignments are accessible on line-No face to face meetings required
  • E books and on line Tests
  • Virtual class rooms
  • On line results
  • On line library
  • Connectivity among schools.

AMMA WI-FI Zones

The Government of Tamil Nadu has proposed to set up Wi-Fi Zones in large Bus stands, Malls Parks etc. to provide Internet Services to the public.

  • Amma Wi-Fi zones have been created near labour statue on the Marina beach in Chennai, Gandhipuram bus stand in Coimbatore, Central bus stand in Salem, Central bus stand in Tiruchirapalli and Mattuthaavani MGR bus stand in Madurai in the first phase.
  • Wi-Fi Services are provided to the public Free of cost for 20 minutes per user per day, beyond which they can continue as premium users by paying sum of Rs.10/- per hour / Rs.20/- for two hours.
  • This help the public to use Internet Service during their travel.

BharatNet

BharatNet is an ambitious project of the Government of India to provide broadband connectivity to all village panchayats in the country. Under phase II of this project all the 12,524 Village Panchayats in Tamil Nadu are planned to be covered for internet connectivity.

The network will be utilized primarily for e-governance, telemedicine & education.          

Announcements

Quality service at affordable cost of Rs.70/-

On 30.08.2011 the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu announced on the floor of the Assembly that Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited would provide quality services at an affordable cost of Rs.70/- being the monthly subscription payable by subscribers to the Cable TV operators of which Rs.20/- would be paid to Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Ltd by the Cable TV operators.

Status:

TACTV is providing Cable TV Services in Analog mode to 40 lakh subscriber and Digital mode to 25.30 lakh subscribers now.

“Internet to every household”

On 14th September 2015 , Hon’ble Chief Minister, on  the floor of the house in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, announced under Rule 110  about the  implementation of BharatNet in the state  and  formation  of Special Purpose Vehicle “Tamil Nadu FibreNet  Corporation “ to execute the project . The Hon’ble Chief Minister also announced that Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation has  obtained  Internet Service Provider(ISP) License from Union Ministry of Communication and IT  and the Corporation will offer high quality, low cost internet services to Village Panchayats to be linked under BharatNet scheme. Hon’ble Chief Minister also announced that Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service will also be provided along with high speed broadband and other internet services.

Status:

Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation has obtained Internet Service Provider (ISP) License from Union Ministry of Communication and IT on 14.9.2015 and the Hon’ble Chief Minister has announced that the Corporation will offer high quality, low cost internet services to the public. Hon’ble Chief Minister has launched “Internet to every household” scheme on 01.03.2016 covering 1100 subscribers in District Headquarters across the state. TACTV had floated the Expression of Interest (EoI) by inviting applications from interested persons to become business partners of TACTV on revenue sharing basis to extend the scheme to Municipality and Corporation areas. As on date Internet service is provided to 5299 subscribers through 63 Business partners.

Fiber Net: 

Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between State Government and Government of India in New Delhi on 26.12.2017 for implementation of BharatNet-II in Tamil Nadu, which connects 12524 villages in Tamil Nadu through 11/33 KV TNEB Poles except for villages in coastal blocks where the cables are to  be laid underground.  The project has been approved by Government of India at a cost of Rs.1230.90 crore. RFP for selection of System Integrator is under preparation.

AMMA Wi-Fi zones

The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced on 23.09.2016  that free public Wi-Fi services through AMMA Wi-Fi zones will be created in 50 places in the first phase. Government in G.O. (D) No.22 Information Technology (B4) Department dated 16.08.2017 have issued orders for release of a sum of Rs.8.50  Crores for setting up of free Wi-Fi Zones. TACTV has implemented the scheme on a pilot basis in 5 location, Chennai-Uzhaipalar Silai, Marina Beach, Madurai-M.G.R.Bus stand, Salem-Central Bus stand, Trichy- Central Bus stand and Coimbatore-Gandhi Bus stand and was launched by Hon’ble Chief Minister on 05.04.2018.

Free Internet to Schools and Colleges:

The Government in G.O.(D).No.26, Information Technology (B4), Dept, Dated.12.10.2017 have accorded Administrative  Sanction for provision of free internet facility to 366 Government higher secondary Schools in Economically Backward Blocks (EBB) at an outlay of Rs.9.06 crores and have released Financial Sanction of Rs.1,23,82,000/- for implementation in 50 Government higher Secondary Schools in Phase-I.

Proposal for providing Internet Connectivity to 50 Government Higher Secondary Schools as a pilot project through a system integrator has been approved in the Board meeting of TACTV. An open tender has been floated for selection of System Integrator for providing last mile OFC connectivity  to Schools in Tamil Nadu and outcome is to be placed before the Board.

Arasu e Sevai centres

The Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology had announced on 04.08.2014 in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly that Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation will start 10 Common Service Centres in each District throughout Tamil Nadu.

Status:

At present Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) is operating 659 centres across the State. The Arasu  e-Sevai Centres are equipped with sufficient Broadband Internet connectivity. These centres are providing many services relating to various Government Departments of the State and Union Government like Certificates/services of Revenue Department, Social Welfare Department, payment of Utilility Bills, Printing of replacement EPIC Card, Pensioners Card, Online Booking for Text Books,TNPSC Services etc.,         

HD Service of TACTV

The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 1.6.2018 under Rule 110 that TACTV will provide HD service to its subscribers.

Status:

The Hon’ble Chief Minister launched the HD digital service of TACTV on 2.7.2018.

Over The Top Service (OTT)

Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation subscribers will be offered “Over The Top” (OTT) services in addition to the existing digital cable TV services through which they can watch their favorite television programmes and various state Government programmes wherever they are across the globe, in multiscreen through cloud in Mobile, laptop, tablet and desktop computer. Initially, 50 to 100 television channels will be provided in this service.
